Why I Use AI

AI has become one of the more useful tools in my creative life, alongside paint and my fountain pen. Living with a disability means I don’t always have the energy or focus to write the way I want to, and ChatGPT helps bridge that gap. It keeps writing accessible for me, both in skill level and in pacing.

Although I never went to college for writing, I still want to express complex ideas. AI helps me shape them. It doesn’t write for me; it helps me say what I actually mean, clearly and confidently. It’s like having a patient listener who happens to know a lot about structure and phrasing.

What keeps me using it isn’t just convenience. It’s connection. Writing used to feel like a solitary struggle, an uphill walk that now feels more like a partnership. AI pushes back when I’m vague, suggests better phrasing when I’m clumsy, and challenges me like a real editor without the cost or the pressure.

It doesn’t replace my voice. It sharpens it.
